“This kind of marketing is absolutely irresponsible, and because it glorifies the risks of a surgical procedure and sends the wrong signal to youth about their self-image,” Dr. Martina Wenker, president of the Lower Saxony Medical Association said in a statement.
The club, “Inkognito,” will host a competition on November 22, where contestants will be required to complete the statement, “I want a breast augmentation because,” and finalists will then participate in karaoke, tug-of-war and balloon biting contests.
The winner of the “Fight for Your Dream” contest will be whisked away in a limousine to Poland, where plastic surgery is a bargain compared to Germany. The lucky girl will then be treated to a post-recovery photo shoot to appear on an Inkognito flyer.
But Wenker doubts that the competitors are aware of the risks of breast augmentation. “Surely disco goers are unaware of the risks, like hardening of the implant, infected wounds and other complications,” she said. “Cosmetic surgeries can have big consequences that are not covered by health insurance. The winner of this competition is actually the loser – both financially and physically.”
The advertisement of plastic surgery is also illegal, Wenker added.
