Body of missing Gorch Fock sailor found
The body of a German sailor missing at sea since early September was recovered on Monday evening, the Kiel state prosecutor's office on Tuesday.
The crew of a fishery regulation boat discovered the 18-year-old's lifeless body some 120 kilometres from Helgoland, an island in the North Sea belonging to the German state of Schleswig-Holstein.
The officer candidate was aboard the German navy training ship the Gorch Fock when she fell into the North Sea on September 3 while on night watch. The ship was at full sail and some 20 kilometres north of the island Norderney, where the waters were 17 degrees Celsius warm.
Officials expect autopsy results soon.
