Air travel for families with babies could be significantly more expensive within the next two years. The German Transportation Ministry is working toward a European ban on lap seating arrangements.

The news may come as a relief to travellers without children, but Wednesday's report by German daily Bild could prove financially prohibitive for some.

If the Europe-wide rule goes into effect, the paper says, not only will children under two no longer be allowed to sit on their parent's lap during flights, but they will also be required to use approved “child restraint systems.”
