Police in Bavaria have identified the limbless torso of a woman discovered a few days ago and arrested her German boyfriend who has confessed to killing and mutilating his partner.

Police said the victim was a 23-year-old woman of Thai origin who was adopted as a child by a German family. The limbless and headless body, wrapped in a plastic bag, was discovered three days ago by a mushroom hunter in a wooded area outside the town of Füssen which is famously located near the fairy tale-inspired Neuschwanstein castle.

The victim’s boyfriend, a 27-year-old former soldier from the eastern state of Brandenburg, confessed to suffocating his girlfriend during a row and then hacking her body into several pieces, police said. Investigators on Friday issued an arrest warrant for him on charges of manslaughter.

A police spokesman said the incident took place after the young woman returned to the Bavarian town of Füssen after a visit to her grandmother in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. She allegedly wanted to break up with her boyfriend and had already given notice on their shared apartment.

In the ensuing fight, she was suffocated by her boyfriend who then proceeded to cut up the corpse with various instruments in the bathtub and stuff the pieces in four plastic bags.

Police said the accused, who owned neither a car nor a driving license, transported the bags with the body parts on his bicycle in a rucksack and hid them at different remote places in Füssen.

The discovery of the mutilated torso three days ago sparked a massive manhunt with over 50 officers to find the missing body parts and identity the victim.
