More than 100 of the best students of German from some 40 countries measured their language skills in an Olympiad that included two tests and both group and individual work. The best of the students will be invited to a three-week language course in Berlin next year.

Girls won all three age groups – a student from Albania taking the youngest age group, a student from Slovakia the middle age group and a Chinese student winning the oldest age group.

The German Language Initiative and the International Association of Teachers of German sponsored the contest. Next year’s games are due to be held in Hamburg.
