Preparations for Germany’s most famous Oktoberfest began in Munich on Wednesday.

Pedestrians will no longer be allowed on the Theresienwiese festival site as workers transform the field into a construction site for massive beer tents, spinning rides, and food stands.

The 175th Oktoberfest will begin on September 20 and runs until October 5.

Last year the Bavarian festival drew in 6.2 million visitors who drank 6.7 million litres of beer.

Prices for a Maß of beer at the world’s largest festival will likely increase to between €7.80 and €8.30 – a €0.50 increase which is scandalizing Germans as they contemplate their Oktoberfest plans.
