German train passengers faced delays on Friday when Deutsche Bahn recalled their ICE-3 trains for inspection after a defective axle popped off tracks in Cologne this week, the national railway operator announced on Friday.

“The security of our passengers has top priority, so we want to rule out every risk at the outset,” head of passenger transportation Karl-Friedrich Rausch said.

The workshop inspections won’t effect the majority of long-haul connections, Deutsche Bahn said, adding that it regrets any delays or seat shortages due to the inspection of at least 60 trains.

Deutsche Bahn asked that customers concerned about their train scheduling call their helpline: 08000/996633.
