Bavarian police arrest 50 for destroying GM corn field
Police in the German state of Bavaria arrested around 50 opponents of genetically manipulated crops on Sunday morning after they destroyed a GM corn field near Kitzingen.
A police spokesperson said they will be charged with unlawful trespassing and willful damage to property.
The activists had hidden themselves in a forest area near Westheim and had broken into a sealed GM corn field at around 6:30 am. They trampled over the crop and uprooted plants before the police intervened.
Some of the activists had to be carried away by police. They could face fines of up to €600.
