A German woman was caught stealing a police speed radar unit after it snapped her racing by in the German state of Hesse, police reported on Thursday.

According to the authorities, the woman stopped on a highway near Treysa after she realized the camera had captured her breaking the speed limit, then unscrewed the camera from its framework and took it along for the ride.

But the camera's alarm system warned officers in a nearby patrol car, who arrived to find the camera camera gone.

They soon discovered the 51-year-old speed demon with the €2,700 camera in her car.

The woman now awaits criminal proceedings for theft and destruction of public property, police said.
