Major US ecstasy smuggler nabbed
Slovak police said on Friday they have detained a German accused of playing a major role in trafficking ecstasy pills from Europe to the United States.
Ralf Stimmer was held in the western town of Trnava. "The arrest was quick and smooth in front of the housing unit in which he had rented a flat," police said in a statement.
Stimmer has been convicted of smuggling tens of thousands ecstasy pills from the Netherlands to the US market in 2002, police said. Slovak and German police cooperated in the hunt for him. Stimmer fled Germany after a court there ordered him jailed for six and a half years. A Slovak court is to rule on his extradition.
