What's What
German-English Association in Munich (GEA)

City: Munich

Web site address: http://gea-muc.de/

Representative's email address: info@gea-muc.de

How many members do you have?
There are about 900 members on our Yahoogroups mailing list, but only about half of those participate in events. We have over 50 event organisers.

Who are they/who is the group for?
An open, mixed group of friendly people with a variety of interests. No limitations on nationality, religion, race, age or gender. Languages used are English and German, programme and website are in English. Events are sporting (walks, hikes, cycling, sailing, skiing), cultural (concerts, film, theatre, museums and art collections), social (meals, picnics, barbecues, beergardens) and touristic (trips to places of interest, town walks)

When was your group founded?
1982

Why should people join?
It is good way to get to know people with similar interests and participate in any of the wide variety of events on offer whenever it suits you. A country walk is often a good way to start off, or call into the Stammtisch to chat in an English pub atmosphere, or join our art buffs at one of the Pinakotheken every month. If you would like to organise events yourself, the GEA offers a large pool of potential participants.

How do people join and how much does it cost?
Browse the monthly programme and regular events on the website, download and print the pdf or collect a printed programme from the Stammtisch near the main station on the last Friday of the month, then pick an event and come along. The first time, and for some events always, phone the organiser beforehand, numbers are in the programme. Subscribe to the mailing list to receive more ad hoc events like weather-dependent mountain hikes. NO membership fee. Event participants pay any costs, which are minimised by car-sharing or group tickets. Programme costs are funded by donations.
