Munich student dies after Dublin stabbing

A 22-year-old German man was stabbed to death in Dublin, Ireland, and another was seriously injured after an argument with Irish teenagers escalated outside a party over the weekend.

The victim from Munich had come to Dublin on a study abroad programme. He was with others on a balcony at a party in the south the city when they became involved in an argument with some younger passers-by early on Saturday.

A few people from the party then went went downstairs where the shouting continued. The teenagers left but returned at around 5:30 am, when the two German men were stabbed, the Irish Times reported on Monday.

The man who died received several blows to the abdomen, one of which apparently severed a main artery. Doctors in a nearby hospital pronounced him dead at 9 am. His friend, also 22, was thought to have mostly been slashed on his hands and should survive, said the paper.

Dublin police initially arrested a 16-year-old and a 19-year-old in connection with the attack, as well as a 40-year-old woman. The younger suspect and the woman were both released on Monday after being questioned.

“We are deeply shaken by the attack and are mourning with the deceased's family,” said Herbert Schmid-Eickhoff, president of the MHMK media studies university where the dead man was studying.

Never a good idea to argue with unknown persons of any size, sex or age. You try or you intimidate a teenager, especially in front of others and some type of retaliation will be forthcoming.

I find Germans especially fond of arguing, many people elsewhere would rather have a fist fight than argue. On the few occasions I have had an argument with a local or two and they just keep running their mouth until you move forward into their personal space, then they say "why are you getting aggressive?

Perhaps explains your statement the xenophobia in Germany.

Because some non-Germans also fear a fist fight, and therefore prefer the use knifes.

Also to combine your experience with this crime is quite remarkable.

Hitler was probably the reason why the fight was started.

Don`t want to read too much into this tragedy, but it doesn`t bode well for Germans abroad in the EU, especially in countries that are being forced to accept austerity measures. It is too bad that Frau Merkel has taken on the role of debt collector and enforcer for the international bankers, as this is bringing about the return of the Ugly German phenomenon. In 2006 after the WM, a worldwide opinion poll found Germany to be the most popular country in the world. Quite an accomplishment. Unfortunately that goodwill is now being reversed as Germany plays the part of collection goon for the Goldman-Sachs gang.

raandy!

You deliver a nice example.Would a German accuse a Migrant of his poor knowledge of the german language.

They would call him a racist and xenophobic and in the worst case even,he would get a knife between his ribs for his statement.

In addition, "K-Pax" has also Internet

Having lived in Dublin's south side ,there are some dodgy parts and some dodgy people there is a major drug problem there.

Having said that many cities around the globe have the same type of problems luckily the issue of guns is not so prevalent .

Condolences to the family it is a nightmare I would not wish on anyone .

raandy: wow, what a stupid comment. How the hell can you bring in some subjective experiences to a case of murderer. How does anyone know that this has to do anything with nationality?

And raandy, I am also non-german and I do not think that germans like to argue. And nobody can argue alone, there must be a second person adding to the arguement. So if you do not wanna argue or discuss, just don't do it.

My sympathy for the loss of life to the family of this young man.Always bear in mind not all societies are the same, and they express them selves differently ,this suits also such a diverse place as Europe...

A life is lost and the philosophers of society are commenting on the reason and judging Irish and German behaviors. I am a non-German, non-Irish muslim going from Germany to Ireland on a study exchange program. My thinking is like a static sound at the moment.................

Chris berlin,

Arguing is a form of aggression and to argue with the wrong people can result in a negative experience, glad to hear all your experiences have been positive, most of mine have also.

I think the deceased should have heeded your advice.

@ raandy:

Are you *** kidding me?? A young man was brutally murdered and the second one also almost died!! He was a quiet and friendly young man. The other student that survived the stabbing is my classmate from Stuttgart! If you don´t know the people, stop talking b****t about them! I hope you have no other major problems in your life!!!

I am also a student from the MHMK in Stuttgart. I am in California for studying abroad. We are all very shocked about the happenings. Condolences to the family Heinrich.

And by the way,@ freechoice:

Education is not your strenght, isn´t it? HITLER WAS AUSTRIAN!!
11:03 December 4, 2012 by raandy
LadyD22 thanks for pointing out my weaknesses, I will try to do better

These 20 year old germans got into some type of verbal confrontation with the younger Irish, it would seem to me that it was more than just an argument, these teenagers left most likely after being intimidated or laughed at ,or something othere.it was, but more than just a simple confrontation as they had lots of time to think about what was said and happened, I think in most cases people become less angry with time not more. this makes me think there is a lot more here than is being told, these teenagers returned and killed this man brutally and injured the other.

I don't think it was over Hitler, there was a lot more here than we know.

You have never lived here I assume .

Well , I will try and solve my other problems one at a time over the upcoming decade, you can't mak a silver purse out of a sows ear.-:)

@raandy

The comment with Hitler was not dedicated to you. And I didn´t want to be rude. But this happening is unbelievable. No, I never lived there... I think both sides are not innocent but is it usual or allowed for a 16 year old to be on the streets at this time at night? What must be wrong in the heads of the locals to kill someone because of a trivial matter? (They just were not allowed to join the party) If that is normal there, I am happy that I never have to live there. That´s ill.

Sadly Ireland has a scum element. Attacks of this nature are not unusual except that they usually happen to other Irish people. As an Irish person I can only say that this is beyong depressing for someone at the beginning of his life to have had it cut so short. I hope the family can sometime be on their feet again. It takes a lot of time.
09:11 December 5, 2012 by Berlin fuer alles
Very sad story. As the previous post says there is a scum element present in every country and Ireland is no different. I have been to Ireland and can only say it is an amazing and beautiful country with very friendly and warm hearted people. This does not change my opinion of Ireland.

I have come across this sort of loutish behaviour very often in Berlin and one only has to read the news in Germany to see how often this happens here. In any city or large town you will find trouble if you look for it. There is no sense in finger pointing unless all the facts of this case are known. Sympathies and condolences to the family,
