Anti-fascists brick up Neo-Nazi politician's front door

Published: 20 Dec 11 16:28 CET | Print version
Online: http://www.thelocal.de/society/20111220-39637.html

Anti-fascists in Lower Saxony bricked up the front door of a top member of the extreme-right National Democratic Party's (NPD) home to protest against his presence at a city council meeting on Monday.

The front door was neatly walled in overnight, and sealed with a poster reading, “House arrest for Nazis.” An antifascist spokeswoman said the action was a symbolic attempt to stop him leaving the house.

Police were called to the house in Oldenburg where Ulrich Eigenfeld, treasurer of the NPD, lives, after other people living there opened the front door and found their exit blocked.

“The line is crossed for us when they leave the house with their misanthropic thinking,” said a spokeswoman for the group in an email, according to the Oldenburger Lokalteil website.

She said that although anti-fascists were against walls in society, naming nationalism, racism, sexism and the class system as examples, this was a different case.

“We say – tear down walls! But for Nazis we make an exception,” she said.

Eigenfeld made it to the meeting of the Oldenburg council, but his speech was disrupted by a group of around 50 protesters who shouted while he tried to talk, and held up banners against the NPD, the Süddeutsche Zeitung reported on Tuesday.

So many Social Democrat and Green politicians left the meeting in protest at his presence, that it could not be continued, the paper said.

This anti-NeoNazi stuff reminds me very much of the Brown shirts taking action against Jews, gays and other "sub-human" species. It begins to look and sound like the real Germany again.

What real Germany are you speaking of?

Professor Quincy Wright offers this further statistical evidence for the same period, that is, 1480-1940:

Of the 278 wars involving European states during this period, the percentage of participation by the principal states was: England, 28; France, 26; Spain, 23; Russia, 22; Austria, 19; Turkey, 15; Poland, 11; Sweden, 9; Netherlands, 8; Germany (Prussia), 8; Italy (Savoy-Sardinia), 9; and Denmark, 7.7

I have been posting many items regarding the nazis that are underground awaiting that time to spring forward and begin "The Fourth Reich" It has been propheszed and everything seems to be going that way. Germany will rule the EC or (The Holy Roman Empire) with the Vatican and the UK and USA will be broke......If you really want to know what's actually going on then type in..."The Trumpet" a magazine that tells you the future....which is coming quickly....

While it's not exactly nice, it beats a death by stabbing, I'd say. At least someone's expressing their disapproval. Too bad for the other people in the house, though. It must suck to be in such close proximity to a neoNazi.

Typical juvenile german behavior. Why not stand in their doorway like a man instead of sneaking around at night like a coward?

Not only did this juvenile prank inconvenience everyone living in the house as well as the intended victim, it posed a serious safety risk also. How funny would the anti-fascists have looked if there had been a fire in the house and all the occupants had died because they opened the front door and found their exit blocked?
18:02 December 23, 2011 by werni2
Hi John Rainer ... well, the windows on ground floor and also in the whole building have not been blocked and also the back entrance was available. I dont know in what kind of building do you live, but it would be a big surprise for me, to have only one exit form the building i am in. To have only just one exit happens usually just in suburban bunkers .. .which was not this case.

There is not enough difference in practice between National Socialism and Marxist-Leninist Communism to speak of. In practice they are identical in their totalitarian outlook and repression of in the individual in favor of the state. Those who speak of Right and Left, or FA and anti-FA, have failed utterly to learn anything from 20th century European history.

How about a list of the Best remembered Wars 1939, 1914, 1870, 1864, 1866. and the Least remembered Wars Jugoslavia, Finnland in which no Germans involved. I can not remember back to 1480 seems germany is a piece loving country. I'd like a piece of France, a piece of Poland, a piece of Denmark.....

Haha, great action! I have to say: very well & funnily done.

Never accept people who judge people because of their skin color. It is so crazy that racism even exists in 2011. Let's NEVER let nazism happen again.

I once blocked my friends front door with large balls of snow which I made in his front yard and stacked neatly one on top of the other. I can see these people didn't even use mortor and was mainly a symbolic stunt which people are taking too seriously. I think it was a great practical joke and pretty much harmless. They are getting some free bricks out of the deal.

@ReallyBigDog

I'd have to say Professor Wright's numbers are a little misleading, given the fact that Prussia didn't exist as a kingdom until 1701, and Austria, for much of its history, was central to the Holy Roman Empire (i.e. the Medieval German State). If one accounts for how many wars the Holy Roman Empire was involved in during its existence (from 962 - 1806), you'll find that the number is far greater than 8.

Of course, this predates the era you mentioned (1480 - 1940) by some 500 years, but I believe the HRE instigated upwards of 30 wars throughout its existence, against everyone from the French, to the Italians, Danes, Swiss, Hungarians, Bohemians (Czechs), Poles, Ottomans, Arabs (Crusades), Baltic peoples (Crusades), feuding German states, etc... And if we count ALL the wars the HRE participated in, offensive and defensive, we're probably looking at closer to 50.

But in any case, Germany wasn't a unified state in the same sense as France or England, or even Russia, until much later in its history. Although referred to as an Empire, the HRE functioned much more like a confederation than anything else.

JAMessersmith always interesting to read something I did not know, You have an interest in European history I assume. Have you read "Bloodlands Europe between Hitler and Stalin" by Timothy Snyder a History Prof from Yale ?it is extremely comprehensive and detailed, it has been described as one of the most important works of history in years. If you have not I would recommend it.
12:11 December 27, 2011 by ICryForDeutschland
So the "anti-fascists" are demonstrating their respect for democracy and freedom of speech. Are the people who came to Germany after 1945 ? Part of the occupation forces? Displaced the Germans and tell the Germans what they should be?

Or they foreign professors of the victorious armies, writing "history" ?
14:53 December 27, 2011 by raandy
The losers do not get to write history, go back to sleep and cry some more.

Can anyone explain to me, after being outlawed, why nazi issues keep popping up?....hmmmm?
19:31 December 27, 2011 by JAMessersmith
@Storymann

Yes, I'm a big history buff, and I love European history, especially; from ancient Greece to WWII, and everything in between.

And to answer your question, yes, indeed I do I have "The Bloodlands". It is definitely one of the most comprehensive books I've ever read about the pre-war, and wartime horrors on the Eastern Front, by far. And it really sticks with you. The chapters about collectivization in Ukraine and the Holodomor are haunting. When I was a kid, the Holodmor was never even brought up in history class, so it was rather shocking to read about. Given the mass-cannibalism that occurred, I understand that it's a very sensitive subject for Ukrainians, but it's something Westerners need to know about. It's hard to even imagine what some of those people went through; first having to deal with Stalin, then having to deal with Hitler, and then having to deal with Stalin again, back with a vengeance. A pretty bleak existence, no doubt.
16:23 December 28, 2011 by storymann
JAMessersmith, thank you for the come back and glad to hear you share my opinion of the book. I doubt that I will ever forget some of those horrific stories about individuals he describes in his book, on a more pleasant note, Have a good slide into the New Year.:-)

Why is it people never seem to get as worked up over Communists in their midst's as they do over perceived "Neo-Nazis"?
