Bavaria's 'Porno Island' set for a clean-up

Sex thrill-seekers have been descending on a lake area near the Bavarian town of Senden in such numbers that locals have dubbed the recreational spot “Porno Island” – forcing embarrassed authorities to take action.

According to a report this week in daily Süddeutsche Zeitung, residents have been complaining about the proliferation of masturbating men, empty condom packets, dumped pornographic magazines and other detritus of hasty, public love-making.

The recreation spot consisting of three lakes, next to Senden, south of Ulm, is being promoted on internet forums for gay men looking for quick, anonymous sex, as well as straight couples wanting to take part in orgies, the paper reported.

After a flood of complaints, sluggish local authorities have finally vowed to try and clean up the area around the three lakes, Großer Baggersee, Kleiner Baggersee und Waldsee.

One resident complained to broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk that dildos, porn magazines, used condoms and rubbish could routinely be found there. His children had even been followed by man masturbating, the resident said.

Thrill-seekers are apparently using the reeds in the marshy areas around the lakes as cover.

“They lie in the reeds,” said Mayor Kurt Baiker, who described the lakes as a “liberal leisure area.”

Although this has been going on for some years, authorities said they had not until now considered it a major problem.

“So far, no complaints have reached us,” said Wolfgang Höppler, the manager of public safety in the district office of Neu-Ulm.

Now they are being forced to act and have vowed to increase police patrols as well as re-landscaping the area. They said it had been difficult to prove breaches of public order because the offenders had often disappeared by the time police arrived.

Mayor Baiker told the paper that action had also been difficult because the area lay on the border between Senden and neighbouring Vöhringen.

Baiker and his Vöhringen counterpart came together this week with councillors and police for a round table. They agreed to put more cops on the beat in the area and to undertake landscaping works until summer 2011, which will hinder access to the area.

“Two thirds of the bathing areas will no longer be available,” Baiker said.

The narrow strips of overgrown land that run between the lakes could be partly cleared and turf put down, Baiker said.

Bathing will still be allowed in marked off areas on the shores of the lakes – including a spot for nudists. Whoever strays outside these areas would be subject to infringement notices – including fines of up to €1,000 – regardless of whether they are naked or clothed.

But even the mayor himself doesn’t believe these measures will fully contain the problem.

“This is the Zeitgeist,” he said. “Whoever wants to show themselves off in public will keep on doing it.”

But the authorities plans have already created a buzz on the aforementioned internet sites.

“We would advise caution there, as penalties could eventually result,” wrote an “experimental couple” on one forum.

Another commentator, named as “Ralf,” noted there were enough nearby spots where there was “no overflow” of passersby.

Mayor Baiker was resigned. “I’m sure that they will find a new place,” he told the paper.

Germany is walking a immoral path which will lead to the eventual degradation of the people and culture. The liberal path has its consenquences. Germany, a once great people and nation, will lose and be replaced by an Islamic Nation.

Well, it must say that the comments made by Dogfight are some of the most wise that I've seen on The Local.

I often wonder if the occasional, extreme left behavior is an effort to counter Germay's past. Well, all extreme appraoches to life are dangerous.

What makes liberalism so dangerous, is that it forces the universe to respond with some form of violence. There are moral and spiritual laws and therefore enforcement.

Wow, you have these tea-party folks in Europe, too? Selling xenophobia that smacks of racism? Sexual misconduct is clearly NOT something that is observed only at one-end of a one-dimensional thought process. Sex felons are far more likely to project racist and hateful speech than to espouse liberal or progressive views.

Thank you very much! because I don´t know what muslims & foreigners got to do with the "sex on the lake" story:-)

I think it would be even funnier if they decided to embrace this tourism, and changed the names of the lakes to:

Großer Buggersee

Kleiner Buggersee

and

Wixsee

Sorry, a little Friday humor...

Logic Guy --

Are you really that stupid, or is this some elaborate put-on?
21:11 August 7, 2010 by Logic Guy
Well, since scientists still don't know the origins of organisms, therefore the theory of the existence of God is more logical. Dawrin had some interesting ideas, but isn't it illogical to follow something that is incomplete?

Logic is the only thing in the universe that is perfect, simply because it includes all possibilities.

No law = No civilization. If humans were allowed to do whatever, then obviously this world would have ended a long time ago.

Logic would suggest that there is a God and therefore He demands a reasonable amout of morality. How many of you believe that we are here on earth to do immoral things?

I believe big-time, in the ways of Jesus. Therefore I care about everyone. It's just I know that humans will always encounter destruction when they don't do as they should.

Moral-Conservatism is brilliant.

What about the possibilities that God was made up as an "all-seeing father" to address unpunished behaviours?

Or that Moses created the Ten Commandments himself to keep the tribes united after fledding from Egypt?

Or that God indeed existed but has died, or is powerless, or couldn't care less about us?

How about moral growing up from surviving families that built relations of trust, developed into clans elders wisdom, and later tribes, that got mixed up with superstitions through times to build religions? If God is so evident, why are religions so different? What makes you think yours is right? And what has God done to correct them, or you?
23:24 August 8, 2010 by Logic Guy
Well, no one has actually ever seen God. Therefore, the existence of God is basically a belief, or a theory.

A theory is accepted as the truth, when there is a plausable amount of logic to support it. This is the foundation of science!

What makes logic so briliant, is that it is above the truth.

And so for humans, the truth is not the most important thing.

Logic is infinite and it is the most important thing there is anywhere.

There are various religions simply because people are different. And since logic is above all religions, it should therefore be the primary focus of everyone. You are nothing without logic. And you will surely be miserable too.

They must be doing this discussion for some self indulgent reason. It's OK to goof around in these forums. Go make yourselves happy. At least you would then be back on-subject for this article.

Might want to put up some AIDs posters down by the lake.
