What a load of hogwash,
Honestly, The Local, who do you think you are kidding with this rubbish, did you get offered free tickets or something. Why not just write an article in the "whats on in.." section rather than try and pawn it off under the guise of a shaggy dog story, pun intended for more exposure. Yes, yes, some may not know that the players get into the role by not shaving and having hair cuts, but if one asks either the two hairdressers in Oberammergau, neither of which will tell you that they have noticed any reduction in business as their clientelle are over 95% women. Going out of business indeed.
Or am I barking up the wrong cross?
Whilst on the subject of the play itself, it's actually quite well done and worth seeing as long as you dont take the story as gospel, again, pun intended.
I feel like to move to this village! :)
While there are many stories to be written about the production and the impacts it has on the village, this is one sidelight that I'll bet few ever considered. I found the idea interesting, and it caused me to think about how the production completely changes the village during that time.
As for the accuracy of the story...does it matter? There is very little first-hand information available, and much that is would be considered questionable. It's just one take on the idea, and probably as accurate as any other similar production. Given the history behind the production in the first place, I suspect it's well worth the price of the ticket.

Sorry guys, but you did, in fact, turn Christ over to the Romans to be killed. Um... Get over it? There is no way you can 'spin' it to make it better. It's bit late to take it back. You can't get your knickers in a twist and be 'offended' about the way it's portrayed.
And no, I'm not saying this because I'm a bible thumping holy roller or an antisemite. It's just a fact.
Don't worry the Muslims will soon put an end to this.
