Police foil illegal nighttime race on Hockenheim race track

Police broke up an illegal nighttime car race being held on the world famous Hockenheim race track in southern Germany on Saturday night.

Around 100 people with 43 cars had managed to get onto the site and were holding races when around 50 police officers showed up.

All those present will be fined, an official said on Sunday. He also admitted that illegal races have likely been held regularly after hours on the track.

Those taking part had organised the races over the internet and had met up at a nearby car park, then entered the track property one by one to start the races.

Another instance of the police state destroying the organized fun of others. Well, it looks like the racers are back to the A6 for fun.

The law of unintended consequences works soo well in Germany!!

That "organized fun of others" was trespassing.

At least they were racing on a track, trespassing or otherwise, here in Toronto they do it on the street, and of course it's an innocent motorist that's been killed or injured in the process o their ''fun''.

And while they were doing this who was policing the roads?

Presumably the rest of the adequately funded police force.

Why not just charge them an entry fee like the Nordschliefe! At least they are not on the streets, but I guess they are now.

I'm skeptical that they were doing this regularly. I live about 10km from the track and if the wind is right, I can hear the race pretty well. There are literally houses right up against the track and this is Germany so they would be on the horn to the cops in seconds of hearing cars on the track. Granted the back side of the track abuts a forest but those gates are always shut except on race day when the VIPs zip through the forest to get on the track from the backside to avoid the peasant traffic. If they were using the track, it must have been an inside job with the security guys.
