Black-belt German tourist gives Aussie attacker the chop

A black-belt German tourist gave her Australian attacker the chop – and a karate kick to the head – after being assaulted in the Outback town of Alice Springs, police said on Monday.

The 20-year-old hit back hard when the unknown assailant punched her for not handing over a cigarette, forcing him to flee.

"When she said no, he got upset and lashed out at her – and she lashed right back," a police spokeswoman told AFP.

"She punched him three times in the face with a karate punch and kicked him with a karate kick. She did pretty well – not that we're encouraging that sort of thing."

The woman, who has been practising karate for 10 years, was not available for comment after Saturday's incident in the centre of Alice Springs, gateway town to Uluru or Ayers Rock.

That is as good as the occasional story you read about a pensioner that some low life tries to mug only to find out they are a retired boxing champion or ex-special services. A small ray of sunshine on a rainy day :)

"not that we're encouraging that sort of thing." makes me wince, though.

Why NOT encourage people to stand up for themselves and others? I'm a single mum, I study martial arts and firearm use because it's my job to keep my child and I safe. If more people did so, there would be less crime.

Thats nothing against how my sister once beat up a robber who tried to steal her handbag right in front of her home in Los Angeles. :-D

And that in the middle of the night !

When her neighbour heard the noise and stormed out in his underpants and armed with a baseball bat , she had already dealt with the robber herself who was fleeing in panic.

Judging by the cracking sound she heard when her elbow landed in his face, she must have broken his nose. LOL

Try to explain that to an anti-gun liberal! Read "More Guns - Less Crime" by two University of Chicago sociologists who studied the data and discovered why the murder rate in America was 1 per 100,000 per year in the era of the gunfighter, when men wore guns to town, church, etc. and is now nationally 10 per 100,000, but in gun-control cities like Chicago, New York and Washington, DC it is 80 to 100 per 100,000 per year.

If the bad guys think you are going to hit them back they don't attack. It is just that simple.

Yes! I was also asked for money and cigarettes by aborigines which is a problem in Alice Springs. I just ignored him and just kept walking away and away and they like to shout and make noise to think it will scare you. Not all of them behave in such a bad way of course and it is always a minority whom cause such troubles especially for the tourists as of course they see them and see free chance for cigarettes and small money.
