On our first visit we were welcomed warmly by Stu the owner from the UK. The tables and floor were clean and the fridge was well stocked with Fritz soft drinks and a selection of beers including Newcastle Brown Ale. Its quite a busy place with limited seating but well worth the wait to enjoy your burger or steak fresh from the grill.
We chose the 'Chili Cheese Burger' & the 'Parasol Mushroom Burger' as my partner is vegetarian. We included a large portion of home cut fries which comes with a selection of 2 dips. Our choose was to go for Aioli and Chili Mayo.
The burgers arrived cooked to our taste (med-rare) and oozed sauce, which I love. I hate getting burgers with a paltry amount of condiment so this really made my day. My partner loved her mushroom burger too describing the big grilled mushroom as the perfect vegetarian option for a burger rather than a mashed up mix of potato and veg. The mushrooms meaty flesh like texture really made a big impact on her.
Afterwards i chatted to Stu about the burger patties as I used to work at BurgerFuel (a new zealand company) when I was based out in Sydney, Australia. Apparently the day starts early in the morning selecting the cuts of beef, shredding and mixing the meats with spices and ingredients all in the kitchen. By 12 mid day the meats have infused the spices and are ready to cook.
We have since been back to Die Fette Kuh on a regular basis after trying out pretty much every burger bar in cologne. Without a doubt this is the best burger in town and with the Mushroom Burger it opens the doors for vegetarians to enjoy a different experience too.
