President and partner 'have no marriage plans'

Published: 2 Feb 13 12:02 CET | Print version

Live-in partner of German President Joachim Gauck, Daniela Schadt, has said she does not intend on getting married, though she knew for some this is was problem, it was revealed in an exclusive interview.

The piece, to be published by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung on Sunday, is the first big interview since Gauck was elected president nearly a year ago.

In it, Schadt says she can understand the debate surrounding her unmarried status as the live-in partner of the German president, saying she realizes for some people it is really a problem.

“But it remains the same as what I’ve always said: It is unusual and for some it is an affront, though we don’t want to propagate a certain role model.

But the family can live with that and therefore we can live with that and I think we can leave it as it is,” she said.

Gauck remains married to the mother of his children, but has lived for years with Schadt, a former journalist.

Asked how it was for her to give up her own career and her long-distance relationship with Gauck, which went on for years, she said, “It is not a model that I would recommend to everyone. It is certainly nice to have an independent life.”

But she described her current circumstances as “a very special situation.

“I couldn’t continue to do my job at the Nüremberger Zeitung and travel to Berlin on the weekends."

Schadt had also previously worked for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung, the paper wrote.

Comment: Dear Pastor Gauck: I assume that you have read Ephesians 5 and that you know that you are consciously and deliberately disobeying God's command to honor and respect marriage, which he instituted and patterned on his relationship with the church Have you considered that as a pastor and the president, you are a very important role model. My19 year old son left home because I objected to his 17 year old girl friend moving in with him. Why do so many Germans think they live in a Christian country when the leader of the country willfully and publiclly disregards the moral law of our God? I've heard Germans referred to as spiritual zombies. Like you, the vast majority of German "Chistians" are not influenced by Christian moral values. Would you please do the honorable thing and campaign for a separation of church and state in Germany. It shows a lack of integrity when people like you use your phony religion as a political asset to try to show yourself to be a virtuous person.

@Lenny: You're ignoring Matthew 7:1, just as you accuse Gauck of ignoring Ephesians. If you refuse to live according the Bible, you can hardly force anyone else to do it.

I feel bad for your son and applaud his character for moving out after your disagreement.

@lenny:

Well, he's an evangelical lutheran pastor from the former east germany, (more pragmatic), not an extremist, thats the difference.

Best decision your son could made,to move out.

lenny van, Mr.Gauck, during the peaceful revolution in East Germany was the co founder of the New Forum that helped bring down the Soviet back dictatorship.

He has always put others before himself, he is a peaceful and honest man. He has my respect.

You are one of those people I remember when I had to attend church, that most likely had the biggest bible and the most criticism of your fellow man.

Marriage is an institution meant for human beings to take the best advantage of human birth and make the best of learning in a gendered pair of human forms. There are no shortcuts and need no clever explanations and smart manipulations to realize the essence of Divine manifestation through the uninterrupted medium of Love as Unity in all Universal Creation and promote the wealth of human species by procreation through the 'Power of Unity' known as "Sex" common to both Gender as male/female forms and whose flow from the medium of Love of Cosmos is made to activate the gendered bodies into the Unity of physical forms to continue the lineage.

In agreement @Lenny #1, follow the advise which is apt to Western society and realize the sanctity of human birth to realize the Ultimate Truth together as One with the infinite Cosmos instead of dangling the individual souls as in a Company Stores living heterogeneously together in a partnership of "beschraenkte Haftpflicht".

Who says they have to get Married? It's all nothing but cultural conditioning that had been stuffed in to our Heads. Gladly more and more seem to wake up to it.
