Does she mean to add this 100 percent tax to Politicians or all people? I imagine the quality of football here will drop dramatically when all of the players go elsewhere to find the big contracts.

So, lets be logical here. Every single business man would relocate out of Germany within days. The vast amount of wealth in the country would be relocated somewhere else. Course, the party doesn't care.

If you look at her ideas....she intends to take the money from the rich, and issue out a 1k Euro a month pay-check....just for being a German. This ought to entice the whole country to run out and vote for the party, but then they'd start to ask how long the free ride lasts.

Save me the 'redistribution of wealth lecture. Every financial transaction is a redistribution of wealth. Right now there is a massive redistribution of wealth taking place, and it is going out of the pockets of the majority and into the pockets of the minority.

I find this idea pretty stupid, but I find it even more stupid to transfer taxpayer money to irresponsible banks who have lent out far more money than even exists.

I think once you are making millions a year, you should be paying 70% tax. Of course, that would be charged on the money you make after each tax bracket, not on the whole sum like Germany currently does.

Once you get a couple of tens of million, you're just playing with money for power and maybe for fun. You have more than you will ever need.

Why are leftist so greedy? So greedy they think all money belongs to them and they will decide what a person needs or should have. Greed in it's purest form.

Do you even live and work in Germany or have you swallowed some Republican propaganda whole? The German tax system DOES NOT apply a uniform rate on your entire income. It works the same as UK, US, etc systems. Tax bands apply progressively higher rates and ONLY ON THE INCOME FALLING WITHIN THAT BAND. Quit with your Tea-Party lies.

Ah, wonderful, jump on an inaccuracy in order to deflect from the bigger picture: Germany's income tax rates and tax burden are very high for the middle class. The people who do well are those below a middle class income and those with lots of property (very low tax rate) and investments (taxed at a lower rate than income).

And instead of fixing this problem, politicians of Left are happy to take money from the middle class to satisfy both their primary constituency and to hand out big government benefits to banks and corporations.

If I were, for example, an A300 pilot with hundreds of lives under my responsibility, I would feel exploited earning less than 40K. I do find the idea good, but the limit should be drawn higher.

I don't disagree with the above. Who earns above €480,000 a year? Probably the infamous '1 percent'. And what to do with so much excess money? You can't let them stay in your bank account. Don't be surprised but Germany is not China. Germany does usually spend wisely the taxpayers money.

I say "usually" because sometimes like now with the crisis, it spends the taxpayers money to bailout those very same rich people who, through the banks, were involved on 'destructive financial speculation'.

Richard Groves and his friends at T and H introduced me to the works of Prof Sutton as well as those of Carrol Quigley, who wrote `Tragedy and Hope`. The elites gave Quigley access to all of their primary sources and the real `deep politics` so that he could write an overview of world history for the elites and the elites only. Only a couple thousand copies were printed and then the plates were destroyed so that the Sheeple wouldn`t have access to the info. You can download the book on the website or find the link to the download, or look for it online as it has since been reprinted.

Anyway, the podcasts are great and the books provide the details of what you already know: they are behind all of the false paradigms.

Apart from the fact that some guys get aggavated on something they did not get (the limit in question is 40k a MONTH, not per YEAR!), it needs to be considered.

I am far from being a socialist or a communist - I know that there needs to be a stimulation for people to give the max.

But let us be real (and even Warren Buffett, also far from being a commie said something similar):

Two or three decades ago, a successful leader would make about 20-30 times the money the average worker made - these days, it often is a 100 times that.

Since globalization, they compare apples to oranges and everbody says the good ones would leave the country to go elsewhere... Well - which good ones? There are only few successful Germans in leading management positions in the U. S. - and one of the few (I forgot his name), working for a tractor-maker (John Deere, McCormick?) mentioned in an interview a few years ago that he dos not make more income in the U. S. Not more income? He said if he puts into consideration the extra costs he has to spend in the U. S. on education for his kids (schools, university), healthcare and other things, it outweights the higher taxes in Germany. He knows both systems - and likes both systems. But he (as a leader!) held that you cannot just pick the advantages from either system and claim higher and higher pay plus boni.

Besides: If you run your own business and take the full risk to gain or loose, that's one thing.

But most managers do not think in the long-term-effect but just lay-off people now to secure their bonus in 3 months. They do not care about the companies' well being in 1, 5 or 10 years as by that time, they will not work there anymore anyway.

Having said that, I conclude: Yes, why not tax those making (nor having!) more than 40k heavier and make tham carry their share by giving back to society.

It in not on taxing what you already have but on what you get - and it would be worth trying.

Besides, there are some rich Germans who (similar to some rich Americans) support this idea.

Any 100% (or even close) tax regime is daft.

Paying people for living in Germany isn't necessarily daft. After all, nearly everybody is already paid: those that pay tax get the first chunk of their pay tax free which is a sort of payment and others such as retirees, children and unemployed also get paid. Putting all this into one payment for being 'German' would simplify things enormously without necessarily costing any more.

It would also have the enormous bonus of eliminating the "poverty gap" which makes it difficult for people on state benefits to work without losing income. Everybody would get the minimum and anything over is just taxed at whatever level.

She's never had a "real" job in her life. Why would anyone listen to her?

Tonapah is darned tootin' right. She went straight from college classes to the state legislature -- without finishing college. Then she finished and got a masters while "working" full time.

As if that's not enough reason to not listen to her, the other reason is that her party (so far) is still a left-wing fringe party with no serious clout. Let's all hope it stays that way.

Amazing. 90% of the posts here discuss the cap and what is a "Fair" amount for someone to earn. I will never see that maximum amount, but I do not begrudge someone who will make it. Taxation which is not equal to all i.e. a percentage, is theft from one to give to another and punishes those who succeed. As always some want what is "Fair". That is subjective. It amazes me that those who really suck at life, want to either represent others who also suck, there by rising in the heirarchy of leeches, or just want more from the productive class, to suppor thier level of suckage.

The high earners are already off-setting the low income earners with the amount of tax paid and this woman wants them to pay more? No, she wants to take all above a certain point! This is crazy.. let us see what her plan is to recoup the lost taxation when these high earners leave the country.

Indeed, I find nothing wrong with raising the taxes on very high incomes. Read carefully: she's talking of incomes of more than 40.000 Euros per month. That's more most of us earn in one year...

If it's got to be 100 % remains to be discussed. It should be good enough to abolish the tax limit we have on very high incomes.

If indeed you are right belladons, and socialism does mean a redistribution of wealth - presumably from the rich to the poor and working class - then when you say "they do not represent you", you are talking to the rich?

I can only speak for myself here, but I would much rather have a redistribution from the rich to the poor than the other way around - as has clearly been happening for the past 50 years under capitalism.

The Local Editor: Are you deliberately trying to mislead by headlining the story with €40,000 per month? Instead of saying €480,000 per year, which would have the support of many...

Can you imaging the joy that phil25 would feel if a relative left him a 1,000,000 Euro lump sum upon their death. And since that money was paid out during a MONTH lets say July. The government would let him have 40,000 Euro and keep the remaining 960,000 Euro for them selves. I'd venture to say phil25 wouldn't be to happy with that deal. I have found one truism when it comes to the government handing out other peoples money.
