Guttenberg denies Afghanistan cover-ups

The government rejected opposition accusations of Afghanistan war cover-ups on Tuesday, following the release of more than 92,000 classified military documents by whistleblower internet site Wikileaks.

Defence Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg told broadcaster ZDF on Tuesday that all information about operations – covert or otherwise – was routinely passed on to the opposition parties.

Among other things, the documents published this week by Wikileaks revealed in extraordinary detail the activities of the shadowy US unit “Task Force 373,” which is charged with the job of capturing or even killing – without trial – Taliban leaders and terrorists.

They show that Task Force 373 has operated in areas of northern Afghanistan for which the Bundeswehr is responsible.

Green MP Hans-Christian Ströbele told the Neue Presse newspaper on Tuesday that he wanted “to read about exactly what the Bundeswehr is doing in Afghanistan.”

Ströbele, who is also a member of the parliamentary oversight group for the secret services, said he had been striving for six months to find out what secret commando missions the Bundeswehr was supporting, “and what in particular the operations team TF 47 of the Bundeswehr is doing there.”

“Task Force 47” is a crack commando squad of the Bundeswehr.

Guttenberg said the opposition parties in the Bundestag were regularly informed about the activities of the Task Force 373 in German-controlled areas and advised representatives at such briefings to pay more attention.

People briefed on the issues, including journalists, had been aware for years of the existence of US crack forces that concentrated on neutralising leading Taliban commanders and terrorists, Guttenberg said.

Guttenberg said he had made the harsh reality of the Afghanistan mission clear by describing it as a “war,” a word the government had tried to avoid for years.

In the past, the image of the Afghan war had been softened but this had to change, he said. Whether the publication of more than 90,000 classified documents would imperil Germany’s national security still needed to be examined, he added.

The appalling violent deaths reported by WikiLeaks are the least of the Afghan War atrocities in which Germany is complicit.

Post-invasion under -5 infant deaths in Afghanistan total 2.4 million (90% avoidable) and post-invasion non-violent avoidable deaths from deprivation total 3.5 million (UN Population Division data).

Comparisons with the Iraq War (1.4 million post-invasion violent deaths; see Just Foreign Policy) suggest about 1 million violent post-invasion violent deaths in Occupied Afghanistan.

3-4 million Afghan refugees have been generated plus a further 2.5 million Pashtun refugees generated in NW Pakistan by Australia-supported US war policies.

This has been described as an Afghan Holocaust and an Afghan Genocide as per Article 2 of the UN Genocide Convention (notably by top US lawyer Professor Ali Khan, Kansas).

A key reason for the 3.5 million non-violent avoidable deaths in Occupied Afghanistan is US Alliance violation of Articles 55 and 56 of the Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War that unequivocally demand that an Occupier supply life-sustaining food and medical supplies "to the fullest extent of the means available to it".

The horrible reality according to WHO is that annual per capita total health expenditure in Occupied Afghanistan is US$29 as compared to US$3,122 for Occupier Australia and US$3,328 for Germany - Germany is involved in horrendous war crimes in Occupied Afghanistan in gross violation of the Geneva Convention and the UN Genocide Convention.

The deaths are appalling in Afghanistan but they are all the fault of a violent group of people who are committed to a world wide crusade against the west and christianity. Never forget 9/11 and the ambition it lays bare.
