Fog is always a catch-22 situation. Do you carry on driving at normal speeds because you know the road and nobody in their right mind would crawl along the highway (not my opinion), or do you slow down according to visibility levels and risk getting obliterated by someone not slowing down...
Couple of years ago I was one of the first on the scene of a fatal accident on the A8. Coupe in there 80's did a u turn into the fast lane. Killed a young couple instantly and died of their own injuries.
My own father in law (now 87) had to be forcibly convinced to stop driving even though he had no sight in one eye and was increasingly confused.
Law needs to be changed. No one has a right to drive a car just because they have a license.
That almost sounds like my gramps. It was suggested to him to not drive any more when he was in the hospital and never could find his room due to dementia.
The way he was driving was that my grandma told him which stick he had to use for the blinkers ect and where to go.
That isn't safe (though he never did get into an accident) Till the day he died, he had a valid drivers license.
There needs to be a yearly drivers and eye exam, for people over 75. Any serious health or medication issues needs to be addressed also, it should be mandatory that doctors report any issues to the drivers license authority immediately.
