Rain, fog but no ice in sight

Temperatures remain unusually mild just a week before the official start of winter, with the German Weather Service DWD even predicting snatches of late autumnal sun among the rain and fog - but don't blink or you'll miss them.

In the south and east, the day is likely to remain overcast, but the sun might break through momentarily in some areas. Nationwide the DWD predicts highs of between 6 and 10 degrees, accompanied by a gentle wind. In the south-west, temperatures could climb to an unseasonable 13 degrees.
Friday night and Saturday is likely to see patchy rain, especially in the centre and north-west of the country. Clouds will give way to fog in some areas, while clearer skies over the south will result in a light frost overnight, with lows of between 0 and 6 degrees.
Germans can look forward to some sunnier interludes on Saturday in the north-east and towards the end of the afternoon in the rest of the country, providing some welcome relief from the overcast conditions of the past few weeks.
More rain is forecast for Saturday night and fog will descend again in the west, with localised showers on Sunday. Things look cheerier in the east, with brighter spells cheering an otherwise grey day and temperatures climbing to between 6 and 12 degrees.
Yet the good news is that mild lows of between 0 and 5 degrees have kept freezing temperatures at bay for the time being, with just a light frost in the south-east. Temperatures will remain mild until early next week, with highs between 7 and 13 degrees forecast for Monday.
