Germany to offer Syrian Christians asylum

Published: 10 Nov 12 15:08 CET | Print version
Online: http://www.thelocal.de/national/20121110-46093.html

German politicians have said they are preparing to allow Christian Syrian refugees to seek asylum in Germany, ahead of a worldwide day of prayer for oppressed Christians.

German politicians from Angela Merkel's governing Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and its sister Christian Social Union (CSU) told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that they are willing to accept Christian Syrians fleeing the violence in their country, in comments due to be published on Sunday.

“It's an act of humanity. I think that we have to be prepared to do so at some point if the situation in Syria continues to escalate,” wrote Volker Kauder, parliamentary faction leader of the CDU/CSU, ahead of a worldwide day of prayer for oppressed Christians.

Kauder further pointed out that many refugees came to Germany from Iraq during the war, many of whom were Christians.

German Federal Interior Minister Hans-Peter Friedrich of the CSU has supported the initiative. “The main focus is on Syrian Christians because they are experiencing the worst persecution,” he told the paper.

Head of the German Association of Expellees and the CDU's human rights spokeswoman Erika Steinbach told the paper that most Christians preferred to stay in their country of origin or at least wanted to return there.

“But when they have no prospects, those of us of Christian faith are called upon to take them in,” she said.

Oppressed christians? Worldwide day of prayer? Who in the hell is going to save me from these christians??? ( Lack of caps done on purpose). Like the poster I saw once here, "jesus please save me from your followers.) I guess Englishted has not read this yet, but I am sure he will soon. Where are you Ted? This is right up your alley! If you are not christian I guess you can be slaughtered, going to hell anyway so what is the point. No asylum or prayers for you heathens!

Hilarious. While "Christian" nations play war for resources in "Muslim" countries for years and years under the guise of "security". Oppressed? Obviously, some people lack legitimate history classes, you know, the non-pope sanctioned kind.

Religion or events that are the direct results of religion have no shame.

@osas1212,

Sorry about the delay ,yes I have read it and weep, yes thats me, no hope for us atheists in the none existent after life is there.

But @marimay there were christians in the middle east before muslims ,and after all these years the education system world wide has still not taught people that there is no jam tomorrow so make the world better today.

how are they going to determine if you're christian?

I call BS.

When it comes to persecution of nonbelievers and people of other faiths, no single religion in history can hold a candle to Christianity.

Millions of dead Europeans in 2000 years, just because they didn't worship the right god.

And just to mention it, in modern times, more than just a few among the hawks in the U.S. government see the two wars in the Middle East which have already caused the deaths of countless innocent civilians as divine providence, as a just war between Christianity and Islam.

But if you know who pulls the strings in the background, you shouldn't be suprised at the words of Angela Merkel and the "C" parties when they claim that Christianity is being persecuted. Both Merkel and other high-ranking CDU ministers and dignitaries have secret ties to the American Christian Right, and the Roman Catholic Church directly carries immense weight within the CDU.

This is nothing but a cynical image campaign by a religion that has more human casualties on its conscience than any other in all of human history. Yes, there are people in the world who are being denied human rights because they are Christians, and yes, they deserve humanitarian assistance. But Merkel and her henchmen are making Christianity seem like that one innocent blameless religion that everybody increasingly hates for no reason.

And @ raandy you're right, they have no shame... if they had any sense of decency, the Catholic Church would first of all finally own up and accept responsibility for the worldwide disgrace of institutional child molestation within its walls, and stop blaming society and framing the scandal as a facet of "religious persecution".

The minute the CDU federal government starts throwing kiddie-fiddling priests in jail wholesale, I will believe that maybe they really do care a tiny bit about actual religion-based persecution.

Given the probable end of said poor folks under Islamic domination no doubt they qualify as refugees...the persistent slaughter of Christians in Iraq would indicate so. There are rather a large number of Christians in Syria according to the Wikipedia page (1.5 million +) so how large a number would be possible to process?

You must be a muslim, otherwise you would know islam murdered between 50 and 65 MILLION people in India in their 1000 year occupation simply for not converting to islam. You could also add to that the 20+ million mostly females sold in the muslim slave markets. That was just India, how about the millions killed in the Balkans in the muslim conquests, add to that another couple of millions killed in Egypt, North Africa, Persia, the Byzantine empire, Spain, Italy and southern France. Let us not also forget the poor black people, the muslims were running a very good slave trade from western Africa 700 years BEFORE the europeans got in on it. An estimated 8 million blacks died on the way to the muslim slave markets. read sura 9:5, convert to islam or die.

In muslim on muslim wars since just 1948 over 10 million muslims have been killed. The number killed since mohammed died are incalculable. Instead of living in a fantasy land, read a few history books.

Got to love the Germans. Here is another group of people that will just cause the taxpayers money and contribute nothing. I've been trying for six months just to get a 90 visa so my Chinese wife could come with me on my next trip back to Germany, with no luck what so ever.

At the immigration office they should ask the men to drop their pants. If they are circumcised then they are muslim otherwise christian. :-)

To Poster #10 - "should be one that enforces our love for who we are here on earth"

What does "Love thy neighbour as thyself mean to you". This is the Christian message. Your last comment to Steve1949 doesn't sound very neighbourly to me. Actually quite primitive.

Those oppressed because of faith require sympathy and considerate treatment. It is a noble act and Germany should pursue it. However there are few more examples who also need such sympathy. Ahmadiyya faith is officially persecuted in Pakistan. Target killing of members of this faith community has become routine in Pakistan. Couple of thousands have already fled to West including Germany. Ahmadiyyacase is also a genuine one and those who successfully land in Germany should be given a right for asylum to avoid any discriminatory treatment by Germany authorities.

Politicians should leave their faith out of politics. This constant subliminal talk by christian politicians goes on my nerves.

Germany has no official state religion and thus is NOT a "christian country". But that is exactly what the CDU thinks.

If the CDU is of the opinion that "...those of us of Christian faith are called upon to take them in,¦quot; ... Then CDU politicians who are of christian faith should please personally house them in their homes and provide them with all they need out of their OWN POCKET. Not out of the pocket of the german taxpayer who is not automatically born a christian.

Im not a christian. I have no religious duty to help christians. I decide who gets my help and who not. I demand a broader political debate about such decisions. Seperation of church and state exists for a good reason.

Instead of trying to help the world, why doesn't Germany try to properly take care of its citizens first by giving them a decent pension! Leave the saving of the world to the Americans.
14:06 November 11, 2012 by George16
Based on my personal experience, this is a very good choice. Other than middle east Muslims (where there is a certain percentage who will create problems for decades), the middle east Christians do integrate very well.

Dear Mr. Oasis

Your comments about Christians being heathens are pretty strong words words for a culture that hasn't mastered the art of eating their food with knives and forks. And whose only claim to fame is exporting terrorism, herding goats and humping camels.

To be fair Germany will offer you for every two Christians, one Muslim who lives here on welfare in exchange.
17:33 November 11, 2012 by septiSeverus
Yeah thats it, Christians will integrate better. However you may have a point?

Thats what Germany needs, more Christian foreigners to work and pay taxes. Let us look at the bright side of Christian charity. More babies born in Germany means, an increase in the minus 0. whatever the other minus numbers are population growth rate Germany presently has.

Das ist wunderbar.

Karldehm, You do know that many cultures use their hands to eat, because they know food tastes better that way. That is just a fact, you poor, brainwashed fool. :)
