Two women assaulted at Munich Oktoberfest

Published: 26 Sep 12 08:30 CET | Print version
Online: http://www.thelocal.de/national/20120926-45191.html

Two women were attacked and sexually assaulted at or near the Munich Oktoberfest over the first few days of the annual beer festival.

On Saturday, a 24-year-old woman left the Oktoberfest at about 3 p.m. with a man she had met there, and who promised to take her to the central train station, the München Abendzeitung newspaper reported.

As they walked across a grassy area near the festival grounds, she stopped because her feet hurt. The man then pushed her over and raped her, the paper reports, before the victim was able to flee.

Shortly before 1 a.m. on Tuesday, another woman was attacked while going to the bathroom in the bushes on the grounds of the Oktoberfest, the paper reports. Three young men came upon the 21-year-old woman, pushed her to the ground, and ripped off her tights.

The woman fought back, kicking, and was able to stand up and run off, according to the paper. The three unknown assailants followed her for a while before giving up.

Police are advising women to be cautious of new acquaintances and to act confidently. In the event of an attack, they should also fight back with all that they have, talk to any possible witnesses, and ask for help.

There was no advice issued for men to not attack people.

Oktoberfest: primitive party with lots of primitive drunk people. Women, do not go there, and if u go there be careful. this is what it can happen with drunk and primitive people around..
17:53 September 26, 2012 by IchBinKönig
Ain internationally renowned harvest festival and its revelers primitive? as usual, a bit of a stretch there, idiot.
18:22 September 26, 2012 by Bigfoot76
So two things. First, there are over 6 million people who visit the Oktoberfest each year. Statistically it is expected that there will be some people with bad things in mind and then possibly add in being drunk and or finding someone in a vulnerable status and you end up with this. A handful of people doing extremely bad things.

Second, "There was no advice issued for men to not attack people" Is this supposed to be funny or is the writer really so absent minded? Of course we have to tell every man that they should not go around raping women...just in case they forgot. Sorry but most men really do not need that reminder and those who do need it...well they really don't either because they will do it anyway.

Still, wouldn't be nice if all the rapists, terrorists, bombers, murderers, kidnappers and pedophiles just stayed away from such a wonderful event?

Although Alcohol can sometimes turn one into a rapist, murderer etc. What might appear wonderful, may not be really wonderful.
19:43 September 26, 2012 by smart2012
i repeat: oktoberfest: primitive party with lots of drunk primitive people. I live in munich, and i tend to go away on vacation during the 3 weeks of Oktober Fest (like many germans do)... city becomes stinky, full of vomit and pee, and full of drunk idiots that try to shug anything that breath.

Konig, go and get drunk, this is what u r good in and that makes u feel strong??? ah ah

@smart

After reading your posts and @kings posts, it is clear you are the drunk one. Who else in their right frame of mind would profess the success of the Chinese state-run enterprise system and wish it on Germany or anywhere else? Clearly you have no understanding of Chinas muddy-waters economics so my advice to you is stick with the drunkenness excuse, because the alternative for your promotions is stupidity.

Smarty again shows how smart he is. Everyone please stand up and give him a thumps down. He talks as if no one else ever lived in Munich during October fest season.

@smart2012

I knew a *** who talks like you and used to go on vacation during this time. A real a}}h}}le. His name starts with "Lu" Hopefully you are not the same guy :))
20:57 September 26, 2012 by smart2012
joysoabraham, no it is not me, so u see, i am not the only one, and i have very nice german colleagues that do the same :-)

come on guys, u are alsways so conservative and traditional, do not sell yourself to beer capitalism. Oktober fest is anything but a traditional and nice bavarian fest, it is just an excuse to sell beer (even not nice) at an expensive price, and get people drunk to sell more beer... focusing on primitive people

then we can explain the article we are commenting here

go to holzkirchen, they have a much better beer fest :-)
22:09 September 26, 2012 by DrWho
If this was in the USA, they'd have setup the TSA Gestapo to screen everyone first. Not to forget having to show ID for a beer. Then after some idiot does something stupid they would ban the whole thing.
23:07 September 26, 2012 by Lawdog20636
Can we all just get along. You are going to have a few nefarious people at any gathering with over 6 million people. The country or the fact that beer is served are not will not change this.
23:38 September 26, 2012 by matchstickmann
@Lawdog20636

I couldnt agree more!

A generalization should be avoided in any case, all 6 million people visiting Oktober fest cant be rapist, its just a bunch of idiots everywhere. It could also be said for religious extremists, terrorists, @smart and @koenig as well :D buahahaha.

@ matchstickmann

yeah, and you can kiss my a$$ too
05:01 September 27, 2012 by lewis69
this is so sad i dont get how any one could do that to a woman if you cant get laid hit the gym.
07:37 September 27, 2012 by hanskarl
@DrWho

So all the men would be at the mercy of the Gestapo TSA after they got got through with them?? They have nothing to do with these types of events just as the "Ministeriums für Innere Sicherheit" or Germany's equivalent would not be handling this event. Next you will be telling us that the Gestapo US has made all mens $chw@^+z'$ illegal and they must be left at the entrance because they are not allowed in the fest. What a joke.... Get a grip....

If you leave out with someone you have never met and advertise you can't get to the Central train station you are asking for trouble. If a woman goes and pees in the bushes at 1AM with that many people around you are asking for trouble.

If this was a weedfest instead of a drunken bierfest, then everyone would be mellow.
19:06 October 6, 2012 by henry1544
For gods sake, let's not talk about who the perpetrators are!! These are not the droids you are looking for! Move along, nothing to see here! Massmedia is one strange creature. EVERYBODY knows who "spikes" drinks and assaults women. Do any of you other readers dear to mention "who"?
