Soldiers threaten actor over anti-war film

Published: 13 Apr 12 14:04 CET | Print version
Online: http://www.thelocal.de/national/20120413-41927.html

The German army is investigating death threats sent to a young actor who was in a television film depicting the Bundeswehr as a bunch of buffoons, the army has confirmed to The Local.

Wilson Gonzalez Ochsenknecht, 22, one of the movie's stars, told Friday’s Bild newspaper that he was "devastated" by the death threat postings, which appeared on Facebook.

The paper, which said it had seen the threats, said one solider called Ochsenknecht a "dirty son of a whore."

The writer, a paratrooper, noted that his battalion lost three soldiers two years ago on Easter. "Be a man and visit me in Paratrooper Battalion 261. I'll kill you, you faggot," the posting said.

Ochsenknecht’s film, "Welcome to War" was shown on private television channel ProSieben on Easter Monday.

The German army is taking the situation seriously, spokeswoman Monika Heimburger told The Local.

"It's an ongoing investigation," she said. It remains unclear if the results of the investigation will remain with the Defence Ministry or be turned over to a government prosecutor, she added.

ProSieben issued a statement on the film’s website saying it was an anti-war comedy in the tradition of the US film "Good Morning Vietnam."

It said it could be shown any day and deals with a topic - the deployment of young German troops in foreign war zones - that is much discussed in Germany today.

The producers chose the comedy genre for such a film because they thought it was a good way for viewers to consider "the unthinkable" and deal with such a topic.

A comedy about war? A comedy about German soldiers and the Bundeswehr? What were they thinking? Should have asked me in advance, could have told them there's going to be a l o t of trouble. Left-wing-weirdoes may believe German military isn't taken seriously any

more, but they are tangled up in their artificial, little make-believe-world up to the woolen caps of theirs. I've seen the other side, brave young German soldiers being insulted by those street-urchins instead of honoured by society, as they should be and deserve to be.

Can't say I don't understand the reactions of representatives of the fighting forces who put

their lives on the line.

"The unthinkable" is that Germany, out of some misplaced sense of duty, sent armed forces to a land that never threatened it, for reasons we now know to be a pack of lies, uttered by a group we now know to be war-criminals, and that she has stayed the course, knowing full well that it was a tragic farce all along. That is the discussion we should be having, not some foolish postings on Facebook by a bunch of people who, unknowingly, are victims of these falsehoods themselves.

Afghanistan: aka 'pipeline-istan' or the source of most of the world's opium to keep the US sheeple unawares. Cui bono? It isn't those serving in the Bundeswehr, that's for sure. Follow the money.

ive been in the german airforce for several years and saw the movie.

in my opinion its just a normal comedy movie, there is much worse, on a much lower niveau.

this butthurt soldiers should get over.

LOL, this actor, who makes his living pretending to be someone he is not, is "devastated" when he he makes fun of people who are trained killers and they turn out not to have a sense of humor. Too funny.

Hey dumbass, you just stepped out of "let's pretend" land into a slice of the real world you know nothing about. Now scamper back into your imaginary reality.

Support to all the men of Fallschirmjaeger Battalion 261, and all the others of the Bundeswehr including my good friend Marcus and his comrades who stand ready to do what their country asks of them everyday.

@Sayer "The unthinkable" is that Germany, out of some misplaced sense of duty, sent armed forces to a land that never threatened it, for reasons we now know to be a pack of lies, uttered by a group we now know to be war-criminals,'

Did you mean Egypt or Libya?
21:19 April 13, 2012 by Sayer
@derExDeutsche, I mean the US, Israel, and eventually NATO. If my research is correct Germany had little or no involvement in Egypt, and 'only supplied munitions' in the Libyan "liberation." The standard for war criminals would easily include, if legally and fairly applied, Bush, Cheney, Rummie, Wolfowitz, Rice and a host of others. And Straw, Blair etc. etc. etc. There are at least 50 PNAC-ers who'd be on that list too. Ask Vincent Bugliosi.

'Bush, Cheney, Rummie, Wolfowitz, Rice and a host of others. And Straw, Blair etc. etc. etc. '

You do realize that Bush has been out Office for 4 years... Wars are still raging. But I guess you wouldn't care about that, no. No protests, either.
01:19 April 14, 2012 by Prufrock2010
Sayer is correct.

Who started these wars, and under what false pretexts?

I don't recall Germany intervening in Egypt. Facts matter.

An actor's just doing his job. He shouldn't be subjected to death threats from deranged soldiers for it.

Glad to see the hatefest is still alive and well on The Local.
02:27 April 14, 2012 by derExDeutsche
Germany put its considerable pressure, all but short of 'officially' going into Egypt, and by the grace of Mubarak did not officially have to. And when in Libya, when that course of action did not work, of course they went officially. Facts matter. The hate is one sided.
12:22 April 14, 2012 by Sayer
@derExDeutsche Nobody is questioning who is in office, or whether there are still wars ongoing. Of course there are, certain people make lots of money from them. Regardless of that there is no statute of limitation on crimes against humanity. Ask Kissinger, who needs legal advice each time before he steps on a plane. Already Rummie and the Dickster have felt this. One chased out of France in the middle of the night, and the other declining to go to Canada, for fear of being detained or lynched. People are not stupid, only those defending the indefensible are. Like war-crimes, crimes against humanity and those who perpetrate them or harbor them. Wars of aggression are armed-robbery writ large. To quote W, "You're either with us or with the evil-doers!" So which is it?
17:26 April 14, 2012 by raandy
This soldier never said he was going to get the actor and kill him.

He said

"Be a man and visit me in Paratrooper Battalion 261. I'll kill you, you faggot,"

Unless this actor goes there he has nothing to fear according to the soldiers statement.

Now this is going to be a big investigation, likely a psychological profile of the individual, and disciplinary action, and media hype. A bit over blown is my opinion.
12:16 April 15, 2012 by Sayer
Speaking of threats, how come we haven't heard a peep from Itamar Yaoz-Kest, who's written a "counter-poem" to Mr. Grass? Justifying his nation's threat to use the Samson Option, he writes, ¦quot; For it is the right of the Nation of Israel to finally shut the gates to the world after it leaves this place (not of its free will!), and we have the right to say, at the price of the 3,000 year old fear: ¦quot; If you force us yet again to descend from the face of the Earth to the depths of the Earth let the Earth roll toward the Nothingness.¦quot; (Source www.israelnationalnews.com)

Surely this a much more newsworthy article as a leading headline. Or is this part of the censorship which controls the nation too?

Germans fought on Axis side and had tasted it all to the bitter end. Now they are being pressurized to support allied adventures to enjoy the sweet taste of sharing the spoils.Let the caption be "Hearty welcome to peaceful wars!"

@derExDeutsche

"Bush, Cheney, Rummie, Wolfowitz, Rice and a host of others. And Straw, Blair etc. etc. etc. You do realize that Bush has been out Office for 4 years... "

The Afgan War began 7 October, 2001 the primary driver of the invasion, the United States thus making the comment re: Bush et all, in fact quite valid.

Please do at least a little 'timeline' research next time before you sound off with your crap.
