Woman's death takes Love Parade toll to 21

The death toll from Saturday’s Love Parade crush has risen again with a 25-year-old German woman succumbing to injuries overnight, bringing the number of dead to 21, prosecutors announced Wednesday.

The woman came from the town of Heiligenhaus near Essen in North Rhine-Westphalia, Duisburg state prosecutor Rolf Haverkamp said.

The precise causes of the woman’s death were not yet known, Haverkamp said.

North Rhine-Westphalia Interior Minister Ralf Jäger is due at 3 pm to make public an interim report on the tragedy, which daily Süddeutsche Zeitung has reported will accuse the organisers of dismissing fears over safety flaws and misjudging the management of the crowds.

Thirteen women and eight men have now died because of the stampede, which happened Saturday afternoon at the Love Parade techno festival after crowds built up in a tunnel leading to the dance area.

At least 500 people were injured in the crush.

It has taken me a few days to comprehend all that has happened. I have been to many concerts and festivals here in the US but not one of this size. I am sure there is going to be plenty of "finger pointing" in regards to the blame but to me the single most damning thing is the "bottle-neck" that everyone had to pass thru. With this many people gathering you NEVER have a single entry/exit point....never...which I know was pointed out to the decision-makers...and was ignored. My heart-felt sympathies to the families who lost loved ones at what should have been a happy day outside with music...

The Love Parade tragedy is definitely something that could have been avoided only if the organizers were keen on their crowd control plans/ strategies. This event has been going on for several years and so far the event has been running without a hitch.

What went wrong this year? Is it the change of venue? Or was the crowd rowdier than the previous years? At any rate, whatever change implemented, this should not have happened. Memorials are now being offered to those who died. Germany and other countries are in mourning because of lives lost. What?'s sad is that these people went to the Love Parade to show their love for music and for life. It is such an unfortunate event!

I, with my team at PeopleBrowsr have come up with a similar report representing sentiments of the general public on different issues, topics and interests. Visit http://www.peoplebrowsr.com/?option=com_pages&view=analyticly_specialreports for more information.
