Summer delayed again with more gloomy weather ahead

Published: 30 May 10 14:26 CET

The German Weather Service (DWD) is forecasting another week of gloomy weather for the country as storm warnings were issued for parts of southern Germany.

Grey skies and wet conditions are expected to dominate the Alpine regions especially, where heavy showers are expected all week, with 60 to 90 litres of rain per square metre forecast to fall by Tuesday.

The DWD has issued storm warnings for the next two days – until Tuesday morning - in the southern states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. The grey weather is expected to continue after that, though it will get milder towards the end of the week, and more summery conditions could finally break out next weekend.

But the outlook on Monday is particularly bleak, with constant rain expected in eastern Germany, and constant rain forecast in mountainous areas. Temperatures will hover between 13 and 17 degrees Celsius. Only western Germany, where the rain may hold off, has a chance of seeing 20 degrees.

The rain will then move westwards on Tuesday, though it will stay cloudy all over the country. The DWD believes the cloud cover could begin to break up on Wednesday.

GW rears it's ugly head again. Before the flow of criticism begins, allow me to say that I have been a meteorologist since 1976 and a climatologist since 1983. I've seen the data and have followed the studies closely for the past 15 years. What I've seen is "normal" variation in climate, but absolutely no evidence of anthropogenic influence on the weather.

Good. Tell that to your kids in 20 years.

Give wxman a break... as he notes, he's a meterorologist and a climatologist, which is code for nerd, geek weatherman who couldn't get laid in a Hamburg brothel. He'll never have any kids.

I'm a retired USAF squadron commander, with three children who I imagine are older and wiser than the three of you. I have the professional ability that you so obviously lack to evaluate this canard of an issue. You idiot uneducated Gorebots are truly beyond hope. There has been no evidence of warming for the last eight years, and even before then, absolutely no evidence of a human-caused influence. When we're deep in another global cooling spell, which most evidence indicated has already begun, then you can eat your little politically-motivated words.

And the fact that 95% of the ciimatologists on the planet disagree with you is irrelevant. If I'm rolling the dice, I'm betting with the house.

Typical coz you are an American you must be right then wxman.even your president has changed his views and agrees that along with China you emit too much CO2 and must reduce your outputs.

Having said that wouldnt it be nice to have to eat my words as it means we were wrong and the planet is saved for the next generation which even you wxman must admit will be magnificent.Your offspring can then carry on to ruin it somemore.

Bet an American oil company wouldnt spend so much money and time clearing up its spill even though it wasnt a BP rig but an AMERICAN one...

Science isn't like politics where consensus rules the day. The data show what is or is not the case. Politics don't decide. Remember that the most dominant greenhouse gas is water vapor, which accounts for about 99% of the total. CO2 is a fraction of one percent and is inconsequential. Also, and this is the key, CO2 LAGS an increase in temperature - - it does not LEAD. This means that warming temperatures cause an increase in CO2, not the other way around. But, I know that folks with an agenda aren't interested in the facts. Just for fun, why don't you try look it up, or would that be too much to ask?
