Germany’s roads and footpaths will remain treacherously slippery for some days to come, with freezing temperatures and some snow set to preserve a sheet of ice on the ground, the German Weather Service (DWD) reported Sunday.

Wouldn't it make sense just to clean the damn streets and sidewalks in the first place?
That would make sense, but would mean getting the public services to actually work when they are needed instead of talking about pay-raises during this needy time. All politics. In summer when they are not needed so much, they will be in your way cleaning non existent rubbish from the streets and handing out tickets for minor offences such as cycling part of your way on a pavement because you cannot easily access the road from your apartment block due to over-parked and badly parked cars.
No, no no, best keep the walkways icy so the public workers can stay warm and plan their next strike in peace and quiet.
