Police raid German-based Ford plants in corruption probe

Some 100 police officers raided sites linked to the US automaker Ford in Germany early Monday in connection with a corruption probe, prosecutors in the western city of Cologne said.

Searches were carried out at Ford plants, at an unidentified company in the western German city of Leverkusen, and at about 30 other locations that included private homes, a statement said.

“We also arrested one person,” Cologne state prosecutor Christina Pohlen told news agency DPA.

Prosecutors said they had been working since September on an investigation that involved Ford staff and others suspected of corruption.

According to the prosecutor's office in Cologne, Ford staff are suspected of regularly receiving "material advantages" from companies that work with the automaker or which sought contracts with it.

In exchange, the Ford workers allegedly favoured benefactors when contracts were being decided upon or established false bills in their favour.

“The state prosecutor’s office also examined the work stations of several people under suspicion at the company Ford,” company spokesperson Bernd Meier told DPA, adding that the company was working closely with investigators.

"allady

FORD,my father said that stood for Fix OR Repair Daily,,"

That's rather old and doesn't do justice to Ford's current line of models.

Interesting this comes on the heels of a prominent German automaker being found guilty of similar crimes in the USA just a couple of months back.

Anyone remember this besides me? Coincidence? I think not. Like children, tit-for-tat.

Found On Road Dead is another version.

It is obvious that theft, greed and other crimes against society are easier than just plain hard work. Enough apparently is not enough.

Any system that promotes the collective and denies the rise of the individual fosters corruption as the only alternative to servitude. (think German education-system, -health insurance, -welfare-state)

- Just a thought.

@kayak

Although your opinion might sound a bit capitalist (are you american?), I have to agree with you on that. Cheers

Try the American health care, insurance and educational systems and then come back and complain about Germany's.

- Just a thought.

@Prufrock; You have given us a recommendation, not a thought.

- You must be tired today.

SAP steals code from Oracle, Ford is corrupt. Sounds like Germany is taking its cues from China and not the other way around.

I believe this behavior is called Banana Republic.
10:55 December 15, 2010 by Kayak
Perhaps, more a Machine Republic or a culture of Engineers, xenophobes and "natural" therapies.

- I think that Prufrock's still sleeping... Shush!

Its to bad that some people in that company are greedy, it hurts the overall company and the workers. Those who were bribed should be fired and those companies who decided to bribe should be blacklisted.

I like Ford, I drive a '96 Taurus GL, its a great car to drive and to fix (except the brakes, I don't have the special tool). Overall I hope Ford does a little more then slap those people on the wrist.

I am tired. Tired of political platitudes with no substance and generalizations with nothing to back them up. If you love laissez-faire capitalism so much, perhaps you should go back to America and see how that works out for you. That is indeed a recommendation.

@Prufrock2010....the criticism was absolute, not relative.

I'm interested in exchanging comments on the nature of this kind of corruption.

For the purpose of improving communication, I'll define "corruption" as being the process by which a person gains a form of personal benefit because they are able to, they are motivated to and by so doing they knowingly perform a criminal act.

I don't think that the causes of corruption are found in biology. I do think that the causes of corruption can be found in society. I can imagine societies where corruption is more likely to occur and others where corruption is less likely to occur.

I am neither German nor am I North America.

- Over to you Prufrock...

Ford Motor Company Just had the European Offices raided by over 100 prosecutors, Police and investigators, for allegations of bribery , Ethics , and trust violations. Exactly , the allegations and sanctions Ford placed on me in a Detroit Mi. Federal Courtroom. I now owe 117K to the company that produced a $21 defective part that was recalled in stages 8 months after AFTER my son Payton was burned to death. Ford made a deal with the family of the passenger of my car, but deny This defective part caused Payton's Death. What a better way to get a case dismissed then to dis-credit the family of the deceased/plaintiff and strike the expert witness. That's why Ford Motor Company reports NO DEATHS on record from the over 16 million vehicle recall of defective cruise control switches. Russian Roulette or Ford is just lucky no one died? Don't settle you get dismissed, Don't withdraw your complaint Ford sues you, for suing them. Ford has now threaten to take my son's house if I did not withdraw my complaint.

Please send Payton's case back to Texas, and let a jury decide. Ford is Guilty they knew the SDCS was defective.
