After years of delays and obstacles, the communist-built Palast der Republik has finally been cleared away to make room for a reconstruction of a Prussian palace that was destroyed in the Second World War.
The Berlin Palace was also called "Erich's lamp store" in reference of the former head of of the German Democratic Republic Erich Honecker, and the many lamps in the buildings foyer.
