I lost my heart in Kastanienallee

Read our expose about  Kastanienallee – arguably the hippest avenue in Berlin – and join us as we debunk the myths, explore the local shops and eateries, and delve a little into its vast and variegated history. With a reputation for being modern, expensive and touristic, critics of the area often refer to it as “Casting-Allee” because of the flaunty and almost catwalk nature of the people who frequent it.
We take you around the various clothes, crafts and haberdashery shops, some expensive and some affordable, and uncover some of the hidden gems. From independent businesses selling gorgeous bespoke clothes to mouthwatering ice cream and waffle cafés to fantastic arts, crafts and prints shops, there is a niche to suit every taste. In the last 30 years alone Kastanienallee has been in a constant state of upheaval – whether being destroyed, redesigned, or rebuilt from scratch. Unfortunately the future of this street is once again in limbo, which is such a shame for a street as beautiful as this one, and a nightmare for the businesses that adorn it. The beautiful street for the beautiful people is a must-see for visitors, make sure you catch it in its prime.  To read the full article on the Oh-Berlin blog simply follow this link.

Overrated street full of people thinking they are cool, like a lot of Berlin!

    Hi there,

I live around the corner of that street and I can see where you are coming from but it is still a nice street to stroll down and enjoy a beer or café even for Berliner. Guess with a negative attitude like yours you might just pick another destination then.

I just mean it is so similar to many streets in any city in the World. New York, London, Paris etc. If a street has a few poncy cafes on it it is considered amazing! I would rather spend time in a street in Wedding or a street in Peckham London or Harlem NYC than a street packed with wannabe cool people, a fair few probably living off mummy and daddies money.

Nothing against you and it is not being negative, i just get sick of these people who think they are better than others and strut around like they are gods gift. It is so sad how materialistic and image obsessed cities like Berlin have become. I came here to get away from places and people like you get in London and found myself somewhere very similar.
