Drivers told to limit speed as heatwave hits
Authorities have imposed speed limits on certain stretches of the Autobahn (motorway) to prevent damage to the asphalt as temperatures are expected to soar over the weekend.
The limits are to affect sections of the A3, A92 and A93, where speed restrictions of 80 km/h are being put in place to protect the asphalt against overheating, reports Focus.
So far no heat-related damage to the Autobahns has been reported.
Temperatures on Friday have hit the 30 centigrade mark in much of the country and are set to stay high during the weekend, although there will be occasional thunderstorms and showers.
But if Twitter is anything to go by, the outbreak of sunshine and the potential for relaxation has brought some Germans out in cold sweats.
NeonSchwarzBlock’s advice on how to deal with the sunshine is to sleep it away. “I’ll simply sleep until the sun’s gone” he tweets.
Ich ratz jetzt einfach bis die Sonne weg ist.

When your eyes are highly light sensitive the the sun isn’t so cool, moans @Cupk4c3 who has obviously never heard of sun glasses.

@eigentlichtot complains of having to stay inside because of allergies, @nachtkueken comments that she anxiously checks the state of her skin every two minutes when the sun comes out and @MichaelJur worries about the damage caused to infrastructure by the heat.
@beercheesebeer meanwhile is sure that once she's done with the housework it is going to start to rain.
