NPD leader resigns over birthday cake

The photos showed National Democratic Party (NPD) General Secretary Peter Marx at a birthday party in a pub in Saarbrücken in February with two women holding sparklers. The party also included a striptease dance, a penis-shaped cake and former porn actress Ina Groll was also present.

Party head Udo Pastörs described the photos, which were posted online, as “unsavory”, Spiegel Online reported.

Marx was number two in the party and resigned on Sunday at a meeting in Berlin.

The photos with the cake were a step too far for the extreme right-wing party, according to Spiegel.

The 61-year-old was also under pressure over the Ina Groll affair. The former porn star was recruited by the NPD but then sacked when they discovered she had taken part in interracial sex scenes.
