The lead singer of the Scottish indie band Franz Ferdinand, Alex Kapranos, on Thursday admitted he shares Germany's passion for asparagus.

"It's asparagus season in Germany right now – and that's something really very Germany, that white asparagus. That's cool," said the 41-year-old rock star from Glasgow.

Kapranos is known for being a gourmand while touring around the world with his band, writing a book a few years ago about what Franz Ferdinand ate between gigs.

He didn't say whether his bandmate Nick McCarthy, who spent part of his childhood in Bavaria, first turned him onto the German asparagus craze.

However, the band's song "Darts of Pleasure" ends with the perfect culinary accompaniment to Spargel, referring to "Schampus mit Lachsfisch, or champagne and salmon.
