Most Germans love to show how well they speak English, but they often misuse or even make up their own English vocabulary. We gathered up the worst offenders for this week's The Local List.
Whether someone asks if they should wear their “Smoking” to a party, or complains that they can't find their “Pull-under”, German offers endless pitfalls for even the more advanced learner.
Our handy guide isn't about telephones - it aims to make foreigners feel comfortable enough to accept the invitation to a “Public Viewing” without worrying that they could be up for a strange night with their German friends..
So from “Beamer” to “Wellness” get out a pen and paper and take some notes on these 12 English words misused in German.
